Mea Rhee, the potter behind Good Elephant Pottery
Mea Rhee is a working potter based in Maryland, USA. She launched Good Elephant Pottery as a part-time business in 2002, and in 2010 was able to "retire" from her long career as a graphic designer, in order to run the pottery business full-time. Her work is being widely collected at prestigious craft events in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. She has been featured in national magazines such as Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated, and also writes an award-winning blog mostly on the business aspects of running a pottery studio.
"I taught pottery classes at a local community center for seven years. My studio business was growing rapidly during those years, and eventually I had to give up my teaching job, due to a lack of available time. I love to teach and missed it! Learning to be a potter has brought me so much fulfillment and joy. I want to create a path for others. So I am putting together this online school so I can get involved in teaching again, in a way that fits into my schedule.
I know there is a gap in available instruction. Many who want to learn do not live near any available classes. Some who live near available classes find that the classes are always sold out. Or prohibitively expensive. Or come with a teacher who doesn't actually teach. Interest in pottery is very high right now. And no wonder! It provides balance to a life where we stare at screens all day. My online lessons can be accessed by anyone, anywhere, and for a reasonable price. This works with my schedule and it works with yours too."
Special thanks to my advisors!
